How to Prepare for Your First Professional Clean

Booking your first professional clean comes with a strange little anxiety. What will the cleaners need from you? Will they judge the state of the shower? On that last one, relax. We have seen everything, and nothing surprises us anymore.

We are Alex and Justin, and we personally do every AJPresentations clean. Here is what actually helps us do our best work on a first visit, and what makes no difference at all.

Clear the surfaces

The single most helpful thing you can do costs nothing: clear surfaces and floors of belongings. Toys, paperwork, chargers, clothes, dishes. When a benchtop is empty, we clean the benchtop. We don't handle your belongings, so a clear surface is one we can clean edge to edge.

It takes a few minutes per room, and it is the best return on effort in this guide.

Five minutes of prep that helps

Beyond decluttering, a handful of small steps make the visit smoother for everyone.

Secure valuables and fragile items

Put away jewellery, cash and anything irreplaceable, and move delicate ornaments somewhere safe. Accidents are rare, but nobody has ever regretted this step.

Note your problem areas

Tell us the two or three things that bother you most, whether that is the shower glass, the rangehood or the skirting boards. We plan the visit around your priorities rather than guessing at them.

Plan for pets

Decide where your pet will be during the visit. A closed spare room, the backyard or an outing with a family member all work well. We happily plan the clean around whatever suits your animal.

Sort access and parking

If you will be out, arrange keys, codes or lockbox details in advance, and mention any parking quirks. Nothing burns time like waiting at a locked door.

Mention anything delicate

Stone benchtops, special finishes, anything with a cleaning quirk. Telling us upfront means the right product goes on the right surface from the first wipe.

What you can skip

You can skip the supply run. Some first-time clients stock up on sprays and cloths before the visit. Save your money, because everything we need arrives with us.

What happens on an AJP first visit

Your walkthrough already happened on video, so on the day Alex starts in the kitchen and Justin in the bathrooms, and we keep going until the list is finished. It is always the two of us, Alex and Justin, so the people you meet at the door are the people cleaning your home.

We bring everything: professional-grade products and all equipment, HEPA-filter vacuums included. You do not need to supply a thing, and you are welcome to stay, head out, or work from home around us. Many clients give us access instructions and come home to the finished result.

After the clean

We finish with a walkthrough of the results, so you can look over each room while we are still there to talk it through. Most clients use it to see the areas they flagged at the start, which is exactly what it is for.

If anything within the agreed scope is not right, tell us within 24 hours of completion and we return once, free, to fix it. That is our satisfaction guarantee, it is in writing, and it applies from the very first visit.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be home while the cleaners work?

No, as long as we can get in. Many clients give access instructions and come home to the finished result. You are always welcome to stay.

Do I need to supply any cleaning products or equipment?

No. We bring everything, including HEPA-filter vacuums and professional-grade products.

Should I put things away before the cleaners arrive?

Yes, that is the one thing that helps most. We don't handle your belongings, so whatever is put away is a surface we can clean.
